Most solar decisions go wrong at the very first step: a capacity is quoted over the phone before anyone has seen the roof. A 5 kW system sounds reasonable until you find that shade from a neighbouring building costs you two hours of generation every afternoon, or that the only clear space faces the wrong way. A site inspection is how you avoid paying for a system that does not fit your home.
What we look at on your roof
- Usable area. Not the total terrace, but the part that can actually carry panels once water tanks, staircase headroom, and walkways are accounted for.
- Shading through the day. Neighbouring buildings, water tanks, parapet walls, trees, and overhead lines. Shade that seems minor at noon can be significant at 4pm.
- Orientation and tilt. Which way the clear area faces, and the angle that gives the best year-round output in Chennai.
- Structural condition. Whether the slab or sheet roof can take the mounting structure, and where anchors can be fixed without creating leaks.
- Roof type. Flat terrace, sloped tile, or metal sheet each need a different mounting approach.
- Cable route and inverter location. A shaded, ventilated wall near your distribution board, with a sensible path for the DC and AC runs.
- Meter and service connection. Your existing EB arrangement, sanctioned load, and where a net meter would sit.
- Water access. Panels need periodic cleaning, so we check that water can reach the array safely.
- Safe access. How our team, and later a maintenance technician, will reach the array.
What we look at in your electricity bill
The roof tells us what is possible. Your bill tells us what is worth installing. We look at your consumption across a full year, because a household that runs air conditioning through the Chennai summer has a very different pattern from one that does not. Sizing to your annual usage, rather than to a round number, is what keeps the payback sensible.
Keep these ready for the visit: your last six to twelve months of EB bills, your sanctioned load, and, if you live in an apartment or shared building, confirmation that you can use the roof area.

- A recommended system capacity, with the reasoning behind it
- An estimate of monthly and annual generation for your specific roof
- A clear price, including what is and is not part of the scope
- Guidance on the government subsidy of up to ₹78,000 and whether your installation qualifies
- An indicative timeline from order to commissioning
There is no obligation attached to any of this. Plenty of homeowners take the report, think it over for a few months, and come back later. That is a perfectly reasonable way to make a decision of this size.
How long it takes
A typical residential inspection takes under an hour on site. Someone from the household should be present to open roof access and answer questions about usage and future plans, such as an additional air conditioner or an electric vehicle, both of which can change the recommended capacity.
