Grid-tied rooftop plants

Solar power installation in Chennai.

ZeroEB turns a usable roof into daytime electricity for the home. The plant is sized from your bill, tied to the EB connection, and tested before we hand it over.

Rooftop array generating solar power on a Chennai home

What the bill is buying

Daytime units from the roof, night units from the grid.

Most houses here do not go off-grid. Solar power covers the load while the sun is up — fans, fridge, washing, and the hours an air conditioner actually runs. After sunset the EB line still supplies the home. A net meter keeps the two flows apart so the bill reflects what you used and what you sent out.

That is why the first document we ask for is a recent electricity bill, not a catalogue of module brands. Units consumed, roof area, and shade decide the kilowatts. Two air conditioners do not automatically mean a 2 kW plant.

How the plant is built

Generation depends on more than the module sticker.

A complete plant from our Madipakkam team. Fitting modules you already bought is a separate job on the installation services page.

01

Survey

We mark shade from tanks, stair covers, and the neighbour’s wall, then keep a walkway so the terrace still works.

02

Solar panel layout

Each solar panel is tilted and spaced for Chennai sun and for airflow. Heat cuts output in May if the array sits flat on a boiling slab.

03

Inverter and wiring

The inverter goes somewhere it can breathe. DC strings, earthing, and protection devices are part of the same scope, not extras added on site.

04

Switch-on

We test polarity and generation, then help with the TANGEDCO net-meter file so the units start showing on the bill.

Subsidy and equipment

Cheaper modules are not cheaper if the subsidy is lost.

Eligible homeowners can receive a government subsidy of up to ₹78,000. Amount and approval follow current scheme rules. The subsidy path needs DCR cells and modules — made in India — plus the application. An NDCR solar panel can look cheaper per watt and still cost more once that assistance is given up. The difference is explained in NDCR vs DCR solar panels.

City paperwork, neighbourhoods, and the wider install scope sit on solar installation in Chennai. This page is about the electricity: how much solar power the roof can honestly make, and how a solar panel array is placed so that number survives heat, dust, and the monsoon.

Questions, answered

Before you compare two kilowatt prices.

Does the house stay connected to EB?

Yes. Solar covers daytime use, the grid covers the night, and a net meter records import and export. The service connection stays.

How is the plant size chosen?

From monthly units, usable roof, and afternoon shade. We do not size from an appliance count.

Can I claim the rooftop subsidy?

Eligible homes can receive up to ₹78,000 if the modules are DCR and the file is submitted. Amount and approval follow current scheme rules.

What happens in the monsoon and in May heat?

Cloud cuts generation, and hot modules produce less than their nameplate. We quote a Chennai year and leave air under the array.
